Zachary announced the construction of a new police station and training center on Feb. 6.
The 21,000-square-foot facility is an upgrade for the Police Department, which has been sharing facility space with the Zachary City Court for over 35 years.
“I have watched firsthand as the department has outgrown the building, having worked in the Police Department complex for the past 34 years,” said Police Chief Darryl Lawrence. “I want to thank the prior administration and city council for allowing us to be a part of all aspects of choosing the architectural firm that designed the new building and selecting the location.”
The new station will house the police force under one roof and provide more storage, as well as an in-house training center, a news releases said.
The city is expecting to break ground on the new station this month, and the facility should be completed by the end of 2024. Grace Hebert Curtis Architects was selected as the architectural firm for the new station, and financing for the project was provided by Government Capital Corp. of Southlake, Texas.
“We had a very positive experience working with Government Capital on this project,” said city Chief Financial Officer Deanna Mankins. “The team delivered a seamless experience, offering open lines of communication throughout the entire financing process.”
