Dedicated facility to begin phase three of Lovelace Stadium renovations

DENTON, Texas – UNT Athletics will soon break ground on a new softball clubhouse facility at Lovelace Stadium, Vice President and Director of Athletics Jared Mosley announced Thursday.

The 6,800 square-foot facility features both player and coaches' locker rooms, team room/classroom, offices, athletic training room, player lounge, nutrition station and equipment room. The facility will be located on the north side of the stadium's batting cages with an outdoor patio and adjacent parking lot.

"We are thrilled to see the construction of the new softball clubhouse begin, marking an exciting milestone for UNT Athletics and our commitment to enhancing the student-athlete experience," Mosley said. "This project underscores our dedication to Building Champions and Preparing Leaders in every sense. I want to express my deepest gratitude to President Keller for his unwavering support and shared vision for elevating all our athletic programs. This facility will provide our softball student-athletes with the resources they need to excel both on and off the field, and we couldn't be more excited about the future of Mean Green Softball under Coach DeLong and his staff."

Construction will take place during the 2025 calendar year with an anticipated opening date ahead of the 2026 softball season. Due to the facility site location, project timeline and the adjacent road construction by the City of Denton on Bonnie Brae Road, parking for the 2025 spring and fall seasons may be affected. Further details, information and game day information will be released soon.

"This clubhouse is huge for our program. We've built something special here in Denton, and now our facilities will match the level we compete at," head coach Rodney DeLong said. "Our players deserve this and have earned it with their success on the field. Having a dedicated space for our program is going to make a real difference for both current and future players. It's an exciting time for Mean Green Softball."

Phase three of Lovelace Stadium renovations will begin with the clubhouse project after phase one featured the installation of a Daktronics LED video display and audio system beyond the left-center field wall, which was completed in 2022. Additionally, phase one included a complete field renovation, including a new drainage system, laser grading and a new natural grass playing surface, as well as a new outfield wall.

UNT finalized phase two ahead of the 2024 season with the addition of new dugouts that include first- and third-base camera bays, along with Musco LED field lights with Show-Light® Special Effects surrounding the perimeter of the field. A future phase is expected to include new grandstands, press box and more.

Since opening in 2007, Lovelace Stadium has hosted over 400 games and 90,000 fans inside its gates. DeLong has led the Mean Green to a winning home record in six-consecutive seasons, dating back to his first season in 2019, with an overall record of 80-27.

The 2025 Mean Green softball season begins with a road doubleheader at the Trojan Classic in Troy, Ala. on Feb. 7 before opening its home schedule on Feb. 18 against Texas Tech. Fans can purchase single-game and Olympic Sports Pass tickets HERE.
