City of Virginia Beach Bow Creek Recreation Center
The Bow Creek Recreation Center replaces a 50-year-old facility with a modern, sustainable space that offers world-class amenities and programs. The building features a striking facade, combining a concrete masonry base and angled roof that contrasts with the level landscape. Large glass windows enhance visibility throughout the space, providing an open, welcoming atmosphere and aiding in wayfinding.
The center’s L-shaped layout efficiently separates activity areas, ensuring that spaces for seniors, youth, and children are distinct from the gymnasium and locker rooms. The upper level is dedicated to aerobics and fitness, offering ample space for exercise and wellness programs. A range of amenities, including an indoor pool, expanded fitness areas, a youth game room, meeting spaces, a golf pro shop, and a snack bar, ensures that the facility serves the diverse needs of the community.
LEED certified, the Bow Creek Recreation Center prioritizes sustainability by incorporating energy-efficient systems such as geothermal HVAC. The design also focuses on improving indoor air quality and managing stormwater runoff, ensuring a healthy and eco-friendly environment for all visitors.
