Student Development Center at Florida Polytechnic University
The Student Development Center at Florida Polytechnic University reflects the innovative and dynamic spirit of the campus community. Designed to resonate with students, the facility fosters creativity, collaboration, and a sense of belonging. It serves as both a hub for student engagement and a space that promotes wellness, resilience, and personal growth. By aligning with the University’s research-driven ethos, the building strengthens the evolving identity of the campus and reinforces its commitment to holistic student development.
The design of the recreation center is deeply rooted in the University’s vibrant student culture. Inspired by the student body’s spirit, the facility not only supports physical activity but also embodies the transformative journey students experience. More than just a space for fitness, it serves as a place for connection, inspiration, and growth, contributing to the broader vision of the University and enriching the student experience.
The building also pays homage to Polk County’s architectural heritage, drawing influences from the nearby Frank Lloyd Wright-designed campus at Florida Southern College and Santiago Calatrava’s iconic Innovation, Science, and Technology (IST) Building. The design integrates these renowned styles into a modern context, creating a striking visual identity. Strategically located along a prominent highway, the recreation center stands as a bold statement of the University’s forward-thinking approach and serves as a visual representation of Florida Polytechnic University’s innovative spirit to the broader Central Florida community.
