The Riverview Surgery Center is a striking two-story facility located on the bank the Missouri River in South Sioux City, Nebraska. The project encompasses a 20,790-square-foot Ambulatory Surgical Center, an 8,850-square-foot Medical Office Clinic Suite and a 6,250-square-foot Plastics Suite as well as nearly 3,000 square feet of common space. An open exam pod concept allows flexibility and collaboration among various practices.

To take full advantage of its waterfront location, the building was designed to maximize views of the river, both from the interior recovery rooms and via two exterior balconies that are available to staff, patients and visitors. However, the site also required Grace Hebert Curtis to ensure security through all river conditions by designing the first floor above flood level and a deeper-than-usual foundation.

The physician-owned and directed surgical center is an already iconic addition to the cityscape, capitalizing on its visibility from across the river and from the nearby Siouxland Veterans Memorial Bridge. For example, the cantilevered second floor creates the impression that the level is floating to mirror the visual effect of the river, while the black brick exterior accents and engaging palette provide a modern complement to the adjacent hotel.
