The 2014 opening of Iberville Parish Hospital, operated by Ochsner Health System, gave local residents access to 24-hour medical care for the first time in more than five years. The community’s previous medical facility suffered extensive damage during Hurricane Gustav, forcing residents to travel to other parts of the region to receive care. Iberville Parish used $22 million in recovery funding from the Louisiana Office of Community Development as well as a $3 million state appropriation to develop and equip the facility. Thus, Grace Hebert Curtis was tasked not only with designing a facility to support health, but also with helping a community heal.

The 43,000-square-foot micro-hospital is ideally sized to serve the estimated 10,000 to 12,000 patients who will access emergency services each year. The emergency department contains 24 patient exam/procedure rooms and two trauma rooms equipped to handle a range of urgent medical needs and offers direct access to the facility’s helipad.

Primary and specialty care services include obstetrics and gynecology; cardiology; urology; ear, nose and throat; and general surgery. The clinic also features obstetrics ultrasound, cardiology stress test and echocardiogram capabilities.

The flat-roofed building is comprised of structural steel and cast-in-place concrete encased in brick and stucco panel façade topped by two glass clerestories.
