The Harpeth Hall Bright Idea Lab was created to inspire innovation, entrepreneurship, and design thinking among students through dynamic, hands-on learning. Every aspect of the space encourages exploration and collaboration, with an emphasis on transparency—literally and figuratively. Glass walls and windows make the process of learning and creating visible, reinforcing the idea that innovation often involves trial, error, and iteration. This visibility invites curiosity and builds a sense of shared purpose within the school community.

Flexibility is a core principle of the Lab’s design. Acoustic considerations were carefully addressed to support a range of simultaneous activities, and spaces are outfitted with markable and tackable walls for brainstorming and display. Moveable furniture and operable walls allow the layout to adapt easily for different needs—from small group collaboration to large presentations. The Lab’s unique mix of learning environments includes a maker space, robotics classroom with a retractable field, a green-screen podcast studio, a teaching kitchen, a cozy loft and study space, and a lecture hall that seats 125 people.
