SLU Grand Residence & Dining Hall

As part of a multi-phase housing plan, our team designed the Saint Louis University, Grand Residence and Dining Hall, a seven-story, 237,000 SF facility. The building includes 528 student beds in single and double suite-style rooms, a 575-seat campus dining hall, classrooms, study lounges, and an outdoor plaza. Located adjacent to the Simon Recreation Center, this facility is dedicated to first- and second-year students.

Grand Residence and Dining Hall is the second of two residence halls designed by our firm, together adding housing for nearly 1,000 students on campus. The project supports the University’s goals of enhancing on-campus living, improving student retention, and bolstering recruitment efforts. It also introduces living-learning communities, providing students with an integrated academic and student life experience.

The building houses three Learning Communities: Diversity and Global Citizenship, Engineering and Innovation, and Ethical Leaders in Business. Each community features a dedicated floor with a specialized learning commons to support academic and personal development. The Engineering and Innovation Community is equipped with a maker space and 3D printers, while the Ethical Leaders in Business Community includes a business incubator with workstations for 12 student-led businesses. The Diversity and Global Citizenship Community offers a flexible dialogue space with seating and whiteboards to encourage collaboration and learning.

The 575-seat dining hall provides a vibrant space for students to enjoy a variety of meals while fostering a sense of community. With ample seating and social areas, it offers students a welcoming environment to dine, relax, and connect with peers.

The residence hall offers well-designed, comfortable quarters with single and double suite-style rooms, providing students a cozy and functional living space. Designed to balance privacy and community, the space fosters an ideal atmosphere for studying, relaxation, and personal development.
