Livingston Parish Detention Center

Designing the Livingston Parish Detention Center challenged Grace Hebert Curtis Architects to deliver a safe, secure housing facility that supports video visitation, educational activities and medical services within a very modest budget. The resulting design includes up-to-date audio/visual security equipment, ten-foot perimeter fencing, a centralized control room to maximize security and inmate monitoring, and a video visitation area off of the front lobby. The building’s exterior features dark and light brick, a covered entryway and ample glazing.

Project Size: 84,235 square feet

Location: Livingston, LA

Completed: 2008

Creating A Large Capacity

The facility can safely accommodate more than 600 pre-trial and state inmates (male and female).

Efficient Design

The efficiently designed complex utilizes both direct and indirect supervision models.

Focusing On Housing

As the Livingston Parish Detention Center is designed to serve shorter-term inmates, the facility focuses primarily on housing.
