Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona set out to rethink how their buildings could adapt to evolving organizational needs while maintaining a user-friendly environment. The challenge was to create flexible spaces that could seamlessly accommodate shifts in company structure without compromising efficiency or comfort.

The solution was a shell building prototype designed to maximize both spatial and operational efficiency while fostering satisfaction and well-being. Natural daylight, open sightlines, and curated finishes create an atmosphere that encourages collaboration, productivity, and connection.

The Townley Campus was one of the first to implement this innovative approach. The campus includes a two-story data center and a four-story office building with a variety of workspaces, conference and multi-purpose rooms, computer server areas, and a welcoming cafeteria.

Strategic office placement enhances visibility and access to natural light. Vice Presidents and Directors have offices at the ends of each floor, with expansive windows offering views and proximity to their teams. Manager offices are centrally located with interior windows to maintain daylight flow and visibility. Open workstations line the perimeter, ensuring widespread access to daylight and views—an approach supported by research linking natural light to increased productivity and employee well-being.

This project blends flexibility, efficiency, and human-centered design to set a new standard for adaptable and inspiring work environments.
