Middle Tennessee State University School of Concrete & Construction Management

The new two-story, School of Concrete and Construction Management (SCCM) serves the needs of the School of Concrete and Construction Management department as well as providing classrooms for the general student body.

The building is organized around the central atrium with distinct zones for office and industry events to one side and labs to the other, to isolate activity and acoustic needs. Windows provide safe views into college specific rooms from public areas to encourage everyone to be curious, ask questions and learn about the concrete industry. The upper floor alternates between classrooms, faculty offices and active and quiet lounges to promote interaction between the faculty and students and to provide ample space for students to use this area as their home on campus.

Outdoor spaces provide a place of rest for the general student body to the north, a working yard concealed to the west, where students can extend their work and projects outside the confines of the laboratories and classrooms, and a second courtyard to the east to support the department offices and program's community and industry events.

Project Size: 54,000 SF

Location: Murfreesboro, TN

Innovative classrooms support hands-on, industry-specific learning through adaptable layouts and advanced technology. These spaces encourage collaboration between students and faculty, bridging academic instruction with real-world construction practices.

Lecture rooms feature tiered seating to enhance visibility and engagement during presentations, creating an ideal environment for learning. Rooms are equipped with advanced technology to support interactive instruction and presentations. Warm wood accents and recessed lighting add a refined, contemporary aesthetic that complements the building’s overall design.
