McKinley High School Proposed Renovations

Baton Rouge, Louisiana

GHC Architects was challenged by the East Baton Rouge Parish School System to look at the 55 year old McKinley High School campus and show how the $35 million allocated in the 2018 tax renewal for this major renovation could completely transform the campus and surrounding community.

This transformation includes keeping some existing structures such as the gym, auditorium and main classroom wings, although gutting the interior of the buildings to provide new 21st century learning environments. It also include a new state-of-the-art Commons Building that will house the media center, dining/collaboration space and elective areas to support the new programs to be offered as the curriculum evolves. In addition to the new Commons Building, there is a new classroom building with 24 learning environments that will house grades 10–12.
